I am a Brooklyn based visual and community based artist originally from the Bay area, California. I’ve attended fine arts programs at The Marchutz School of Art, Columbia University, and Saint Mary’s College of California. My work explores human connection, intergenerational knowledge, and memory - particularly relating to grief and love. I am interested in the tension between structure and imperfection, which speaks to my love of geometry, abstraction and elements of craft. Through my work, I look to investigate how art and craft is passed through generations, and the ways we collectively grieve and love. I work primarily with acrylic paint on raw canvas, textiles, wax, and painted canvas collage. My process involves cataloguing a series of images that reference a particular memory or emotion and reducing each image to a singular color. Once a palette has been deduced I used the specific set of colors and their narratives to create a grid like painting through highly diluted layers of paint. I apply the layers through a technique that mimics the way ones uses a loom to weave, further emphasizing the way that pieces of our memories are woven together. Often times this palette is used to create other forms of craft that have been shared through generations of my family through a variety of textile arts such as quilting. This body of work is rooted in the generational craft, stories, and memories that we pass down through time.
